Poogan's Porch Reviews
Wanted to have our wedding reception catered there but Hurricane Floyd prevented that. Wonderful food in a charming atmosphere...the Chicken Charleston is great!
This is one of the places in Charleston I get recommended most. When I went, we had dinner out on the porch. We had their mussles, the Cajun style shrimp, and seared tuna. I didn't really care for either of the entrées, but my dad loved them. The place is reasonably priced in comparison with other restaurants in town of the same type.
One of the best places to eat in downtown Charleston. This restaurant is a Charleston mainstay. A must to visit when in town. Excellent food. Wonderful setting in an old Charleston house. It's great!
We enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Poogans Porch. The portions were great and the presentation was very nice. It was a casual atmosphere with fantastic food. A definate `don't miss`. I only wish we'd had time for another meal there!
I don't know if we just picked to eat at Poogan's Porch at a bad time, or what??? We were sorely disappointed with our experience. The moment we walked in the front door, we smelled a strong sour smell--it smelled as if someone had mopped the floor with dirty water that had soured. We should haveturned and walked out at that point, but didn't. After that, we were greeted by a rather ill-kept waitress who asked us if we had reservations. (We were about the only couple in the restaurant around 5:30 p.m on a Thurs. night.) When we said `No,` she tauntedly replied, Then I'll make you sit outside.` I can only guess that her next reply was a result of her realizing how she sounded, saying, `No, you're thinking, we won't do anything we don't want to.` (We hadn't mentioned the strong foul odor upon arrival.) It was certainly the strangest southern hospitality we encountered on our, otherwise, wonderful, and 1st trip to Charleston, SC. We did stay to eat, continuing to get a hint of the sour smell throughout the meal. The entrees were good, the biscuits a bit underbaked, as well as they were served with sweet MARGARINE, of all things. We will not recommend or eat at Poogan's again, after that strange experience. Absolutely delicious. The duck was fantastic and wine can be reasonably priced. Walk-in sit outside, which is probably the best seating anyway.

Best restaurant in Charleston. Very sweet staff. Biscuits are esp. amazing.
Basically, we wasted half of our Sunday, sitting in Poogan's Porch waiting for either a ghost, or our food. Only one of them showed up and it was pretty scary.
