Hominy Grill Reviews
We ate at Hominy Grill last night and thought it was incredible. They have gotten a lot of favorable press from New York Times and all the big food magazines and, surprisingly enough, lives up to the hype! The menu is short and simple--totally unpretentious. Everything tasted really really fresh. The service was sweet and attentive. We would definitely go back!
Get the big nasty biscuit and chocolate pudding....you won't be disappointed
by Erica G.
Big Nasty Biscuit, if its still called that.
by Patrick W.
Good food, great atmosphere, AND you can totally watch out-of-towners struggle to understand the concept of grits.
by Marek B.
Delicious! Definitely try the She-Crab Soup - it's worth the trip for! Also tried The Big Nasty & Shrimp & Grits. End it all with delicious & light Buttermilk Pie!!
by Tracy S.
Shrimp and grits are great
by Michael H.
Came for lunch. Grits were nothing special. Grouper special was good. Sweet potatoes were solid. Swordfish and sauce was terrific. They were out of their famous chocolate pudding. Great service!
by Justin R.
+1 for the pudding. Not your average chocolate pudding.
by Nick P.
Omelettes are fantastic. Nice staff. Best breakfast in Charleston
by Jim C.
Staff very knowledgeable.
by Charleston D.
Wow, amazing food, awesome people. Get there early or you might have to wait. Big nasty is superb.
by Justin B.
Best mashed sweet potatoes ever. Great service. Meat eaters shouldn't miss the ribs!
by Molly S.
Add eggs to the Big Nasty!
by Culture C.
Love the hot pepper appetixer!
by Maia M.
The previous recommendations to get the Big Nasty biscuit are dead on. It's fantastic. Add fresh ground black pepper rather than Tabasco, it compliments the sausage gravy better.
by Michael D.
Friendly wait staff, great food. I can vouch for the Shrimp étouffée, Big Nasty, Mac n cheese (extra delicious), shrimp n grits (so flavorful), mile high biscuit with jam. It was all so good
by Jinet N.
Get the Big Nasty...Best gravy I've EVER tasted!
by Smash Box Mobile Kitchen
Their biscuits are the most bland I have ever had. And, believe me, this Southern girl knows her biscuits.

xBEST Shrimp & Grits!
by bernard s.
In comparison to the other brunch places I tried this vacation in Charleston, I found the food here to be just mediocre.
I've had better grits. The double cut bacon was tasty- never met bacon I didn't like though! All in all I didn't get all the hoopla!
Cheese grits, ftw.
by John R.
If they have the brisket - get that and switch out the red rice for sweet potatoes!!! So delicious!!!
by Kiki B.
Whats all this hype about the chocolate pudding?? The hot fudge brownie is truly amazing!! Also, shrimp and grits is fabulous!
by Annie J.
Very disappointing experience overall. I had high hopes but the wait staff was not helpful and it took 45 minutes for our meal to arrive...and then one of our meals was stone cold.
by Todd K.
Shrimp and grits are fabulous.
by David B.
Chocolate pudding 👍👍👍
by Teddy S.
Squash casserole is light & airy, service is friendly without being overbearing. Meh on cornbread, the very early 90s style composition of the plates.
by Talia R.
The shrimp and grits are not "amazing" as so many people claim. They must not be from the South. They're ok, but overpriced and I've had much better for cheaper. Shop around for Southern food a bit.
by Nadia S.
Deep friend cheese grits are a must. The chocolate pudding is super tasty, but plan to split it with someone!
by Sarah G.
The vegetable plates are an excellent value!

Fried cheese grits FTW!
by Thomas M.
The Big Nasty Biscuit is Great!
by John W.
The big nasty and the buttermilk pie are the best.
The Big Nasty. The chocolate pudding. You'll be in a food coma with a giant smile on your face. Hominy is a local must! Definitely worth the wait.
by Kim B.
Decent collards, lame biscuits.
by Leland S.
Get the Coconut Layer Cake.
by Jack K.
Neither very big nor at all nasty, The Big Nasty was a knife and fork-worthy biscuit. The chocolate pudding is indeed what all the reviews say. Very much all-home-made and very tasty.
by David H.
Big Nasty with an egg is the TRUTH.
by Everett K.
$8 for a kids grill cheese is a total rip off. If you order it, admire the recent renos and know that you are helping pay for it.
by Ryan G.
So yummy for brunch, but seriously packed most of the time. Call ahead or at least don't come famished! On Saturday and Sunday the wait is often an hour. Totally worth it though!
by Caroline B.
Best WAVOS in town
by Ryan G.
The biscuits are amazeballs as are the Bloody Mary's. Order the Bloody Mary spicy and dessert is a must!
by Katharina B.
Three words. Ginger pumpkin bread
by Adam H.
The staff is so friendly from the moment you walk in the door. They definitely hire the right people. Tip them double. #JustDoIt
by Chucktown L.
Wow, the big nasty is amazing true southern food! Also, get the chocolate pudding for dessert. Great dark chocolate taste. Love the ambience, worth the long walk from the market!
Get the deep fried cheese grits. One of the best things I've ever eaten.
by Steven M.
A couple great vegetarian choices including these delicious pinto beam cakes served with a tangy relish. Try them!
by Heidi C.
Eating at Hominy Grill every day is certainly an option. The "Big Nasty" biscuit will keep you coming back.
Great Souther cuisine, love the shrimp and grits, the big nasty is the perfect breakfast, a must if you're in Charleston. Full review...
One of my favorite places in Charleston! Get the big nasty biscuit followed by chocolate pudding! Both featured on Food Network and you can definitely see why!
by Johnny B.
Try the big nasty with jam! Delicious. Add a mimosa and you have an awesome weekend brunch.
by Amy G.
Double cut bacon!
by William S.
The sweet tea was amazing as well as the Big Nasty. Man vs Food was here and it is well worth it. The side dishes were to die for including the squash, tomato pudding and mashed sweet.
by Christopher J.
Hominy Grill is about as southern as southern can get. It’s a must stop for tourists and locals alike, which is a rare achievement for a restaurant. [Eater 18 Member]

The Big Nasty was wonderful. Wait was a lil long. We chose to sit outside and the chairs were uncomfortable.

The Big Nasty is the best.
by David W.
Their Counter Culture blend they use is sweet and chocolatey; it's some of the best restaurant coffee in town.
by Sam C.
Get here early and expect to wait!
by Alex K.
Chicken and waffles! To die for
by Denise C.
Vegetarians, be aware: many of the menu items that appear veg-friendly are cooked traditionally with bacon. That being said, the pinto cakes are totally safe and absolutely amazing!
by Jess K.
The new to-go window and bar is clutch!
by Christian S.
Be sure to bring a bag of grits home with you!
by Billie Anne H.
Try the Fried Green Tomatoes Blt (via @Foodspotting)
by Glad D.
The Lee brothers took Andrew to a restaurant known for serving a traditional southern comfort food --boiled green peanuts. As seen on Bizarre Foods America.

by Sammie O.
Try the specials. (The strawberry pancakes were awesome.) or try the Big Nasty Make sure to check in with host or hostess before standing in line. Parking could be an issue.
by Wanna See It All
You haven't had Charleston until you've had the Big Nasty.
