Poogan's Porch Reviews
Wanted to have our wedding reception catered there but Hurricane Floyd prevented that. Wonderful food in a charming atmosphere...the Chicken Charleston is great!
This is one of the places in Charleston I get recommended most. When I went, we had dinner out on the porch. We had their mussles, the Cajun style shrimp, and seared tuna. I didn't really care for either of the entrées, but my dad loved them. The place is reasonably priced in comparison with other restaurants in town of the same type.
One of the best places to eat in downtown Charleston. This restaurant is a Charleston mainstay. A must to visit when in town. Excellent food. Wonderful setting in an old Charleston house. It's great!
We enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Poogans Porch. The portions were great and the presentation was very nice. It was a casual atmosphere with fantastic food. A definate `don't miss`. I only wish we'd had time for another meal there!
I don't know if we just picked to eat at Poogan's Porch at a bad time, or what??? We were sorely disappointed with our experience. The moment we walked in the front door, we smelled a strong sour smell--it smelled as if someone had mopped the floor with dirty water that had soured. We should haveturned and walked out at that point, but didn't. After that, we were greeted by a rather ill-kept waitress who asked us if we had reservations. (We were about the only couple in the restaurant around 5:30 p.m on a Thurs. night.) When we said `No,` she tauntedly replied, Then I'll make you sit outside.` I can only guess that her next reply was a result of her realizing how she sounded, saying, `No, you're thinking, we won't do anything we don't want to.` (We hadn't mentioned the strong foul odor upon arrival.) It was certainly the strangest southern hospitality we encountered on our, otherwise, wonderful, and 1st trip to Charleston, SC. We did stay to eat, continuing to get a hint of the sour smell throughout the meal. The entrees were good, the biscuits a bit underbaked, as well as they were served with sweet MARGARINE, of all things. We will not recommend or eat at Poogan's again, after that strange experience. Jim and Lee, Missouri
Brunch was amazing. Some of the best biscuits I have ever had and the chicken and waffles were delicious. It's also pretty and charming. Would definitely go back if I'm in the Charleston area again.
by Nicole P.
One of the best brunch experiences I've ever had. I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes. The biscuits are the best in town. Order up a cocktail and enjoy!
by Paige C.
We had the pimento cheese balls... fantastic!
by Claire J
Wow the cheese balls and ribs were unreal.
by Zach T.
Where to start? All good! Get the Mac and Cheese-now! My daughter loved the chicken and waffles. Others loved the French toast. Service great. Just come here!
by Brent Gatewood
The crab cakes we're ok. Overall disappointed by the food and service. Not worth the price. Service was extremely slow and nothing about our meals was that exciting.
by Himanshu D.
Fried green tomatoes good, but don't compare to Cru or Magnolias. Crab cakes decent. Skirt steak pretty good. Hot in there. Not too crowded for a Saturday night.
by Doble C
French toast was simple and nothing special. The fritters were spicy and good!
by Inna S
Awesome food, amazing service. The Shrimp and Grits was fantastic and the pimento cheese fritters delicious.

The chicken and waffles are superb. The Shrimp and Grits are sweet, but still excellent. The food and service were both excellent.
by L J.
We've been doing a food tour around Charleston and this place really does have the best shrimp & grits! I tried it at other places and they were good...but not as good as here! They set the bar high.
by Briana K
Our favorite dish in Charleston so far were the shrimp & grits here! The fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese fritters were good too. Skip the violet drink :P The bartender was really nice though!
by Briana K
Southern cuisine presented with fresh ingredients. Light on the butter and lard in service of lighter, natural flavors. Thought I'd dislike the unfamiliar twist, but it's hard to be fight delicious.
Good atmosphere, but we didn't like the food, the roasted duck and the pork both tasted so so, and were hard to chew, and too salty.
by Aex R

by Sam D.
The food is good, I admit, but I've never had great service. Especially during their "throwback menu" promo every year, service really suffers. And I'm not really willing to look past it anymore.
by Alex Myles
I was a bit nervous about ordering fried pork chops, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it only lightly fried. The Gouda Mac and cheese was delicious, but the collard greens were a bit overcooked.
